Satellite Broadband Trial…

The Pineapple Group of companies, based in Bridport, has announced it is to work with Avanti Communications (www.avantiplc.com) to trial satellite broadband in Dorset.

Broadband, or lack of it, has been one of the major challenges for SMEs in the County. Andrew Dyke, CEO of the Pineapple Group, a typical rural business, hopes this partnership will be start of a new era, helping SMEs especially in West Dorset to prosper and grow whilst complimenting the programme being developed by the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership under the auspices of the Governments Broadband Deployment UK initiative.

Avanti Communications sell satellite broadband services to telecoms companies that use them to supply residential, enterprise and institutional users. It’s first satellite, called HYLAS 1, entered orbit on 26th November 2010 and is the first superfast broadband satellite launched in Europe. A second satellite (HYLAS 2) will launch in 2012(Q2) and will extend Avanti’s coverage to Africa and the Middle East.

We will keep you all informed of progress.
