The National Fraud Authority estimates the cost of fraud at £40 million per day, whether committed internally by your employees or by individuals external to your organisation, and it can affect you and your business at any time both financially and emotionally.
During economic uncertainty it is a timely reminder that, as times become tough for everyone, the opportunity for fraud is a real concern. Over £40 million is lost every day to fraud in the UK. For every £100 of turnover, businesses are losing £6 through fraud. Did you know that.... 80% of corporate fraud involves the collusion of an employee? Or that 90% of fraudulent employees have been with their employer for over a year and 20% of fraudulent employees have been with their employer for over 10 years?
Some small businesses may not be able to operate internal controls on the scale of larger companies but any business, regardless of size, is potentially at risk of fraud and should take reasonable precautions to avoid becoming a victim.
